Introducing Spaloon - Interview from Kuwait

When I first heard of Spaloon's opening in Kuwait, I thought to myself, finally a men’s luxury spa in Kuwait. Spaloon is going to give every Kuwaiti man more enthusiasm to take care of himself and look his best, as their services take pampering to a higher level. I personally look forward to seeing how Spaloon does in the future as it looks very promising, and they definitely have the AbsoluteMan’s seal of approval. I would like to give a special thanks to Spaloon for giving us the opportunity to interview them and share images of their wonderful spa, right here on AbsoluteMan. Here it is, an interview with Spaloon.



 

Tell us a bit about your experiences and how you got started into this business?I take this opportunity to introduce myself as a partner with 4 other professionals that have teamed up to create a lavish day spa and salon boutique experience called “Spaloon”. This unique project made its official debut in 24th of November 2007. Spaloon is located in Salmiya, a very busy commercial district that lies on the coast of Kuwait.

The project’s core operation is conducted in an unprecedented approach that is becoming an increasingly popular trend spotted these days in cosmopolitan cities such as New York, Paris, and London. The unique lifestyle model will provide the traditional spa treatments and services in a day spa environment with the added benefit of male grooming services, to address the needs of local metro-sexual clients, including hair styling, manicures and pedicures. In brief and just like its slogan says, Spaloon is a “Pamper Yourself” destination for the male clients.

The facility is 450 m2 in size and is divided into the below main areas:
- The Lobby (which is composed of reception/retail gallery/waiting lounge)
- The Salon (hair care lap and cutting stations),
- The Hands & Feet Stations (mani/pedi therapy)
- 2 dry treatment rooms (for facial and massage treatments).
- The hydrotherapy section (for wet treatment such as the royal Moroccan bath and Turkish muds)

The final theme and style of the facility is ‘modern, hip, funky and edgy’ with a contemporary style. The target clientele is the upper middle class to high class local/expat professionals of the ages 22 to 55 years.

Tell us how the idea of Spaloon came about ?Living abroad and specifically in the US, made us realize how it is hard to get in Kuwait a professional and hygienic hair/body treatment conveniently for both, females and males without going through a lot of aggravation, since the average local offering is either relatively unavailable for this kind of services we are used to or unacceptably outdated and/or in some cases is overly priced. Therefore, and after forming our company “Spaloon for Health Centers & Salons Company”, we have decided to pursue first our male only spa and salon and started to do a lot of international & local research to create Spaloon, the one-stop grooming and spa experience exclusively for men, combining barbering, skincare, body care, and spa treatments.

How is Spaloon different to other men's luxury spas?Spaloon is a unique lifestyle concept, that offers an experience from the moment the client walks in to the time he exists as it is not the typical male salon you would find in Kuwait nor the thematic spa you would go to get a Swedish massage. It is simply a fusion between an avant-garde salon together with a lavish day spa. Hence the offering is simply the popular traditional spa treatments and services found in a day spa environment with the added benefit of male grooming services, including hair-cuts, styling, therapeutic programs, not to forget our very indulging yet masculine manicures and pedicures.

In addition to our unique Spaloon’s offering, we provide many other Complimentary Extras elements to make our client’s experience one of a kind. Some of these items include:
A retail gallery selling top international skin & hair care products
Availability of entertainment gadgets throughout Spaloon including an LCD at each treatment station, Laptops & IPODs at the lounge
Menu of beverages at the juice & espresso bar
Daily newspapers & current men's magazines
Wireless internet access throughout the facility



Tell us about the services Spaloon offers ?Spaloon’s menu is fun and dynamic, taking into consideration the male’s needs in the first place under our motto “Pamper Yourself”. For instance, in the salon at spaloon menu, the services offered include the following:

- Hair (starting from the Cut & Run, to the hair combo which is the cut and styling, child combo, and more)
- Hair Coloring/Relaxing (professional hair coloring and relaxing advice and treatments can be offered by our hair experts)
- Hair Programs (whether it is hair dullness, hair loss, or even dandruff, a consultation and a curing hair program can be offered to clients)
- Shaving/Trimming/Tinting (closet shaves are achieved through our extensive shave services including the traditional Basic Shave, Steam Shave, …, and the Shave Royale which includes a mini-facial and pampering steps to achieve the best shave in town)
- Hands & Feet (whether it is a mini (maintenance) mani/pedicure or our signature mani/pedicure royale, we guarantee that our clients’ hand & feet are ready to take them anywhere)
- Hair Removal (through our waxing or trimming offering, unwanted hair can be professionally removed with our well trained staff)

Each of the above mentioned menu offering is conducted by our skilled and well trained hair stylists/therapists using internationally renowned products such as Schwarzkopf, Alterna, American Crew, Redken, Rene Furterer, OPI, etc…



Where do you see the brand going?So far, we are thankful for the success that we are experiencing with the Spaloon concept. As a result, we are currently assessing few opportunities to open more locations in different cities of Kuwait (i.e. Kuwait City and Fahaheel areas are next). Besides Kuwait, other plans are being considered to open branches for Spaloon in other important cities in the region such as Dubai, Doha and Riyadh)

What’s next for you? Other arenas you might venture into?Due to the increasing popularity of this great spa & salon fused concept, we decided to repeat this great experience beginning of 2008 but this time with a different twist and opened in Abu Dhabi Sharanis Wellness Spa, an Asian sanctuary offering salon and spa services to the female clientele. We saw a genuine need and opportunity for a female spa and salon destination for females in that market, which was well received by the market. So far, Sharanis has done very well in attracting many of the local and expat females residing in and around Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi.
